About HomeBasket

Your kitchen, remembered.

HomeBasket started with a simple observation: the grocery receipt already knows what's in your kitchen — every app just ignores it. Nutrition apps ask you to log each meal by hand, forever. Pantry apps ask you to type in your groceries one by one. Both quietly assume you'll do the bookkeeping, and almost nobody does for long.

So we built the other way around. You photograph the receipt you were about to throw away, and HomeBasket does the rest: decodes the cryptic abbreviations, builds your pantry, starts an expiry clock on the perishables, matches recipes against what you actually have, and shows an honest health picture of what you buy — without ever asking you to keep a food diary.

One photo after each shop. That's the entire habit.

How it's built

HomeBasket is independently built and funded — there is no advertising business, no data-broker model, and no investor pressure to monetize your information. The product is the product: it's free to start, and one day a subscription will pay for it. Nutrition facts come from the USDA's public food data, shelf lives from USDA FoodKeeper, and package details from open product databases — sources you can check yourself.

What we believe

Honesty beats confidence. When we can't score a product, we say "score unavailable" — never a guess dressed up as an answer. When a nutrition figure is an estimate, it's labeled as one.

Your data is yours. Receipts stay private to your household. Questions you type to Ask are answered and forgotten — never stored. You can delete your account, and everything with it, from inside the app.

Less waste is the quiet win. The average household throws away a meaningful share of the food it buys. Knowing what you have — and what's about to turn — is most of the fix.
